Hurricane Sandy and the Nest Thermostat

Nest Learning Theromostat

Yes, just in case you thought Nest didn't have a connection to Hurricane Sandy, here's one happy owner who leveraged his Nest to help find out what happened to his property in Ocean City, NJ before, during and after the storm.

I installed the Nest in January of 2012... I was an early adopter and clearly love both of them. They've enabled me to keep watch over thermostat abusers that rented our property over the summer and now it helped me track the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

I used it by simply connecting to it periodically throughout Sunday evening and Monday. I was able to see it go offline on Monday around 4PM. The good news about that, is it was long after the island was heavily flooded in the morning high-tide. So, my little Nest told me that all was okay and the house didn't flood to the point of losing power.

Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy

Our hearts and minds are with those who are encountering hardships due to Hurricane Sandy.  We at Delmarva Group have not gone unaffected.

DMVG is located right in the path of the storm, but we made it through okay.

In observance with the orders of NJ and DE, we are officially closed and working remotely.

We're happy to report our services remained unaffected by the storm.  All hosting platforms and newsletter systems remained online and functioning throughout the storm.  There is a reason our primary data center is in Arizona.

To all those effected by the storm, our hearts are with you.  Stay Safe!

The Cyber War is coming, and there is no map.

cyber war

The Cyber War is coming.  Have you heard about it?  Is your company prepared to fight? What about your vendors and partners?  The cyber war cannot be avoided.

In the past wars were fought over land.  Air forces pummeled the ground to soften it up for an invasion.  In recent history, countries were devastated with cyber attacks in conjunction with physical air attacks as a way to break down the communication systems. These cyber attacks were highly effective.

It has long been said that the US, being one of the most technologically advanced countries, is highly susceptible to cyber attacks.  If you think this comment applies to the US Government… you'd be half right.

We are ALL under attack.  I don't mean to sound dramatic here, but if you watch your server logs, you'll see it.  Day in and day out we are under attack.
