Email not getting through from your website?

STOP SPAM - Email not getting through from your website?

We have a former client whose website was hacked. They repeatedly show up on anti-spam blacklist filters. Being good corporate citizens we warned them of this occurance. Usually, when a website his hacked the root purpose is to send spam from the hosting server which will eventually trigger a blacklist entry.  The client was, improperly, told by their current website developers that, "blacklist providers are just trying to extort money to have your domain removed from the blacklist." WRONG!

How can I Block Spam?

How do I Block Spam?

To date, legal measures have failed to stop Spam.  The primary reason is that Spam is basically a human problem.  You can, however, do something about it using some anti-spam software such as that available in our AVG CloudCare offering.  While anti-spam technology is a good thing, it’s not a foolproof system.  Let’s examine why...

Most anti-spam systems use techniques to analyze and inspect email to determine if it’s spam or not.  These profiles can be obtained over the internet or are built using your local email client’s spam system.  Microsoft Outlook, for example.  Basically, the program will read the email and ask, “Does this look like spam to me?” Based upon the rules available to the system, it will assign points to the message and if there are more points than a certain threshold, the message is marked as spam.  At best, this system will flag “most” spam, but it will likely catch some legitimate email too, also known as Ham.

How does a SPAM blocker work?

How does a spam blocker work?

A spam blocker is one way you can effectively cope with the deluge of spam that is targeted at your inbox each day. This type of anti-spam software works by blocking any unsolicited email from getting to your inbox. It is generally about 90% effective in blocking this spam, along with any viruses and other malicious code that may come with it.

The spam blocker differs from a spam filter in that its function is specifically to block most of the incoming spam. The spam filter works by organizing email that it identifies as spam into folders, and leaves it to you to take further action on. The spam blocker, on the other hand, is specifically programmed to prevent spam from getting through. With a spam blocker, you do not have to deal with the spam it detects and blocks.
